Halton police say one person has been safely removed from a residence as officers and crisis negotiators respond to an active situation at a residence on Lakeshore Road West.

One person remains inside at this time, officers add.

Police said an initial call was received shortly before 1:20 p.m. on Friday following reports of possible gunfire in the area.

The ongoing situation has since been contained to a residence after at least two people barricaded themselves inside.

“Our crisis negotiators will be working to resolve this safely,” police tweeted.

Appleby College is in a hold and secure as a result of the situation. Students and staff are being asked to remain inside until further notice.

Police say residents “in the immediate vicinity of the involved residence who were notified in person to shelter in place should continue to do so.”
